Our campus is located in Marinha Grande. It is housed in a beautiful, historic building which dates from 1966 and is adapted to suit modern times.

A school for the whole person, not just the brain

Our learning spaces and environments enhance our hidden curriculum and our community's full developmental journey (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual), going beyond academic achievement. We believe in a holistic education, where students have the opportunity to develop as individuals in all aspects of their lives. The outdoors is also crucially important and plays an integral part in the holistic environment of our campus. We aim for our school to be simultaneously a welcoming home and an inviting workplace.

A commitment to beauty

LIS is an engaging educational environment that will feel like a beautiful home and allow all students, teachers and parents to find their place. The school is focused on transparency, movement and a fluid functional transition, all of which teach about high standards, attention to detail and commitment to beauty. Through a minimalist design approach that maximizes and focuses on natural daylight, the building offers a lasting first impression and is a place where children will want to come daily.

You are the “center”

Everybody learns differently – and everyone needs variety. We believe that learning environments need to support different ways of learning and developing skills for the 21st century. Our strategic interior design is supported by academic research, pointing to the significance of the physical space in learning. A key conclusion of “Creative learning environments in education” suggests a positive impact of creative learning environments on learners’ academic achievement: increasing confidence and resilience, enhancing motivation and engagement, developing social, emotional and thinking skills, and improving school attendance. Flexible, collaborative educational environments in the school will have integrated digital technology and be ready for various project-based learning processes.

Let’s learn outside

“Outside” first of all means in nature. We have a principle of “Nature Makes Our Day”: outdoor learning is a central part of the curriculum, so nature and plants are an integral part of learning at LIS. “Outside” also means in the community. Through projects and holistic learning, learners are required to contact adults in their different roles: parents and relatives, friends, professionals, and workers. There is no separation between ‘school life’ and “real life, ‘schoolwork’ and ‘real work’.
